My 1988 Ranger GT project |
Stolen June 21, 1999! It was stolen from my house in Fort Collins, Colorado. The picture
below is how it looked at time of theft. The local police are unwilling to help me
find it. The VIN is 1FTBR10T1JUD16872 and had a Colorado license plate 14204XS.
If you see it or any parts trying to be sold, contact the your local police and
call or e-mail me. (970) 470-2656. or email caroth@rothfam.com |
The Ranger GT with the summer wheels
(97 Cobra wheels) |
As you can see I have 96-97
Cobra wheels with 245/45ZR17 Eagle ZR tires on the rims. I hate the tires on my SVO,
so I put them on my truck since I really don't do any performance driving with the
"truck". The rear springs are sagging a bit, so I will find a new set. |
Do you know what will be next on the truck? Turbocharger,
5.0?, No, I will drop the truck some. It is a 2wd, so why have it sit up in the air
so much?
Here is what I think it will look like lowered with these
wheels: |
I will drop the front more than
the rear! |
September 15, 1999, I swapped out the 14" steel wheels for
some 16" Mustang wheels and some snow tires that I purchased for a great price. |
Update! The
Ranger with the new wheels and tires! |
These wheels are from a 94-98 Mustang
GT. They are 16X7.5 with a 5.75" backspacing. The tires are 235-60R16
with 90% tread that I picked up for $15ea and a case of beer! |
July 28, 1999, The Ranger sitting at the used car lot in Pagosa
Spring, Colorado. Yes I drove 300+ miles one way to check out this truck. I
have always wanted a Ranger GT. The fact that it is a long bed, made it even
sweeter. I purchased the truck with topper (not shown and quickly sold) for $2,200.
I finally brought it back up to Fort Collins in late August. |
The truck has 89,000 miles on it and has
never been in a major accident. It has been repainted and the new paint sucks.
It is the original color. Those are not the stock wheels and will be replaced with
16" wheels very quickly. |
The truck is a long bed which is what I am
looking for. The motor is a 2.9L V6 with a 5-speed which is somewhat gutless but
better than a 2.3 NA motor. Plans will probably include a 2.3Turbo or a 5.0 if this motor
gives up the goose. |
Notice the body damage on the back. It
looks like the guy does not know how to drive a truck with a trailer. |
The left rear has a crease in the
fender. Looks like the guy found a post. There is no rust on the body or under
the fenders. |
The rear is disappointing with the trailer
hitch sticking through the rear bumper cover. There is supposed to be an exhaust tip
sticking out of the bumper but it is rusted over the axle so the tip is above the
bumper. Not a problem, I would have switched to a 2.5" exhaust system. |
The urethane rear bumper cover is detached
from the other ground effects. It can be easily re-attached but will need painting! |
Again, I think the previous owner could not
drive this truck with a trailer. Look at the damage from a trailer. |
The distinctive Ranger GT ground effects
from Ford. I have been trying to find production numbers for this model. I know they
only made 730 in 1989. |
The interior is perfect except that it is
red. The engine has small leaks around the valve covers and power steering
pump. Typical for a 10 year old vehicle. |
The skinny: It is a two-wheel drive and has working
A/C! Driving lights work and is mechanically sound. Mods coming soon! |
