Rotated upper intake manifold from a non-turbo
2.3 Mustang. |
|
Since there are so many 2.3 Mustangs from 87 and on, I
decided to cut up on of those manifolds. On my first attempt, I cut and rotated the
manifold 90°. I trial fitted the manifold on the car and found out the interference
problem with the alternator. Then then recut and reworked the manifold in the
following way. |
|
I cut the manifold 1 inch up from the bottom and then
recut a slice out of the upper part. Total material removed was .25" on the
front and .65" on the back side. |
|
I then had my welder TIG weld the manifold cack
together at approximated 100-100° rotated. Notice that I had him add extra material
all around the weld for match porting. For more pictures of the weld, click here and here. |
|
I fit the manifold to the lower to make sure of proper
fitment and then started to port the thing. I removed a lot of material but only
match ported the upper. |
|
The final result aligns the upper to the side of the
alternator just enough to work great. |
